All grapes for this wine are sourced from a BioGro-certified Vineyard in Te Matau a Maui Hawkes Bay, with acknowledgment of the whenua as Maori and recognition of the interconnectedness between people and land as integral to Maori Whakapono (belief). The Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir for this expression were grown organically on Two Terraces Vineyard in the Mangatahi subregion. The vineyard is alluvial, formed by the Ngaruroro Moko-tu-a-raro ki Rangatira awa, with red soil between the alluvial gravels. All fruits were hand-picked in the early morning of March 10th (Poutu-te-rangi). We were gentle and cautious where we harvested; blessing the whenua with karakia and aroha. These grapes were co-fermented in a small open fermenter with 100% whole bunch carbonic for 8 full days.
